We are lucky to have snowbird guests in our community during the winter months. They bring laughter and a cheerful spirit to our community. These guests come from various places, such as Michigan, Minnesota, Dakota, and Canada. Many of our hotel units have been restored or redecorated and are ready for the guests to enjoy.
2023-2024- Extra Curricular Activities
One of the most memorable experiences of this year was participating in the Fall Prevention/Physical Therapy classes in 2023. We are doing a Physical Therapy class (Jan- March 2024) conducted by Dr. Jeff Emde and Mrs. Laura Lopez from AdventHealth University. Both classes impart valuable knowledge and practical techniques to help keep our residents active and robust, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents.
2023- In Summary
This year, our residents fully engaged in various activities, including art classes, swimming lessons, chair exercises, book club meetings, fall festivals, movie screenings, and trips to Walmart/Publix. Also, residents enjoyed the Thanksgiving and Christmas banquets with great music and delicious food.

Thanks for Mr. & Mrs. Wittenberg for organizing this activity. They went to Morse Museum and to a near by restaurant. All the residents had a good time.
Mother's Day with virgin mojitos!
Virgin mojitos, muffin burritos, and guacamole were the reason to celebrate Mother's Day. We had such a good time that we forgot to take a group picture. Moms were really happy!!!!

4 men push an elderly woman in a broken scooter home in the pouring rain. A Florida community is praising a group of men for saving the day.
Lending a helping hand will always be appreciated. Four young men learned that firsthand after they received praise for escorting a retirement home resident back to her residence when her scooter broke down in the middle of a storm.
Katty Castro, a public relations representative at the Florida Living Independent Community in Seminole County, Florida, witnessed the kind act and snapped pictures of the group who valiantly pushed the resident’s scooter to her planned destination.
"Since this is a very quiet neighborhood I was surprised to hear a commotion, laughs and four gentlemen pushing one of my lady residents under a heavy storm in Florida," Castro told Fox News. "They were pushing her up the big slope toward her residence. These heroes were so focused on helping regardless of the inclement weather and they were even covering her with an umbrella, which showed more compassion on their part."
Castro said she went on to thank the men "for their kindness and asked them for a group picture" when they were done with their task and shared the moment with her community on Nextdoor – a hyperlocal social networking app where people can share what’s going on in their neighborhood.
Initially, Castro thought the helpful team of four were local teens from the high school next door, but she later learned the men were employees of Rebounderz Adventure Parks.
The men were passing through the area after a hard day’s work, but noticed the woman just when they were about to turn onto an eight-lane highway.
"[We] noticed the woman was clearly experiencing a malfunction with her mobile scooter," said JohnMorgan Massa, a corporate general manager at Rebounderz Adventure Parks, in an interview with Fox News.
"We were tired, dirty and wanted to get back to the hotel; but, knew without a doubt that regardless of our long day, it certainly wasn't worse than the day this lady was having. She literally had a plastic bag on her head to keep her hair dry," he added. "We knew we couldn't leave her in the rain, in the middle of the road, frantically trying to get her scooter to work again."
Massa and his colleagues reportedly made a three-quarter-mile trek as they carefully pushed the resident while she remained on her scooter, according to Castro.
"Those scooters are heavy, add the resident’s weight, her groceries and collapsing tires, the sum is a whole workout. But, I am proud of their sacrifice," Castro said.
Massa said helping the resident was a no-brainer.
"We just wanted her to get home safely," he explained. "We never expected recognition, just helping a fellow member of our community."
When it comes down to the viral attention they’re receiving, Massa said he and his team "could have never expected this" and hope that people feel encouraged to help their neighbors when duty calls.
"Holding a door, smiling, picking up someone’s spilled groceries, reaching for an item on the top shelf in the grocery store; and, yes, helping someone whose electric wheelchair broke down in the rain are things almost anyone can do," Massa told Fox News.
Castro also hopes this moment inspires others to step up when times get tough, even "when the environment is rough."
"As a mom of teenagers I want my children to grow up like these 'modern heroes,’ to make a difference each day no matter the environment," Castro said. "In these rough COVID times, let’s demonstrate compassion to one another."

Oyerly's Celebration
The best of celebrating is to bring all your family along to the occasion. Mr. Oyerly had an awesome time last Friday on April 23, 21 with family, friends, and other residents. They gathered to have a great party with delicious food and music. It was a memorable moment for all the family.
OUR ACTIVITIES ARE RETURNING....
Florida Living Retirement Community (FLRC) partnered with Adventist Health University (AHU) Physical Therapy Department for an eight (8) week exercise routine. During the sixty (60) minutes the students led the residents on moderate endurance activities. The aerobic exercises included walking for strength, squats for balance, and stretching for flexibility.
COVID 19 VACCINE
We are so blessed our residents received the first dosage of the Covid vaccine on Jan 14. One hundred and forty-five residents and community members benefited from it. The second dosage will be on Feb 9, 2021, starting at 10:00 AM. Check your appointment time and come 15 minutes before your appoitment.
Small World
Jim and Faye Lambeth just moved to FLRC this December 2020. They have been longtime friends of the Florida Living Church. Mr. Lambeth was a guest member of the brass assemble for several years. In November 2020, they sold their home of 26 years and said goodbye to the neighbors. One special neighbor for the last 20 years, was Rhonda Harper. Imagine their surprise when the Lambeth’s found out that next door at Florida Living was Shirley Lewis, the mom of Rhonda Harper. What are the odds? It is interesting that most of the people that move to our community would be acquainted with someone, have been in school or in the mission field with another resident. In short, we are a big family!!! FLRC is a place where friends become family. “It’s a small world indeed. It keeps recrossing itself” (David Mitchell).
Surviving Two Pandemics at 107 years old. ....
Tillie Dybing is what many would call a survivor. At 107, she has survived two pandemics: the 1918 flu pandemic and most recently recovered from a bout with COVID-19. And at 95, she beat cancer. In an interview with KARE, Dybing said she was almost five years old when the 1918 flu pandemic struck her family at their North Dakota farm. Christmas Dinner 2020
Christmas 2020, all residents followed all the protocols. Food was great, the decoration was awesome, the speaker was inspiring, the night was a great celebration. Getting together in such a long time was the best Christmas gift. Thanks to all the staff who decorated, served, and prepared everything to make this special occasion! We are blessed for such a strong group!

Thanksgiving Banquet 2020-
More than 70 residents of Florida Living Retirement Community participated on the annual Thanksgiving Day Banquet. A delicious vegan menu was made by Norma Delight. Everyone enjoyed and had a good time. Pastor Alan Jones highlighted many of his childhood memories and some residents shared their home traditions. All the precautions such as face mask, social distancing and sanitation protocols were followed. Residents who could not attend or were more at risk also received a beautiful package with their meal and dessert.
